Torpedo found floating in the Rangabali canal of Patuakhali, fear of explosion

A large object resembling a torpedo, approximately 27 feet long and 3 feet wide, was found floating in the canal of Mirakanda village in Rangabali, Patuakhali. The sighting has attracted curious onlookers but has also spread fear among the local community. Coast Guard officers suspect it could be a used or inactive torpedo, which poses a risk of explosion.

Following the discovery, people were cleared from the vicinity of the object in the afternoon, and it was secured with ropes to prevent it from drifting further.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangabali Police Station, Helal Uddin, reported that police were dispatched to the site after receiving information from locals. Members of the Coast Guard, after examining photos, preliminarily identified the object as a torpedo. Since it was found floating, it is presumed to be used. OC Uddin mentioned that the torpedo might have entered through the Rabnabad channel from the Bay of Bengal. The Coast Guard has been notified and is expected to take necessary action.

Md. Abul Kalam Azad, the Contingent Commander at the Coast Guard's Rangabali outpost, commented, "Our team in the Andharmanik River is heading to the site. From what I have seen, it could be a torpedo, not a missile. It has joints typical of a torpedo, which are used by navies to destroy large ships."

Eyewitnesses describe the object as resembling a heavy weapon. It might have drifted into the canal via the nearby Rabnabad channel. They have called for its immediate removal to ensure safety.
