US Students Shining Like a Lighthouse

Just when it appears that the world is nearing doom, human beings somehow find inspiration from the most unlikely of sources. The university students of the USA have recently set such an example.

The massacre in Gaza has escalated into genocide, one of the worst in the modern world, yet the US and its Western allies continue to support Israel in these grave acts. The US Senate has even recently passed a bill allocating a substantial budget to support Israel in the future.

Nevertheless, the world is protesting, and the hypocrisy of Western regimes has been exposed. Protesters in major European cities regularly demonstrate, maintaining pressure on their governments. However, perhaps the most prominent beacon of hope is the protest led by university students.

There have been several clashes with police at various universities, as officers attempted to subdue the protesters. However, the students have firmly maintained their stance.

According to the BBC, there has been an increasing number of students at universities across the US walking out of classes or attempting to establish encampments in protest against Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

Police have arrested hundreds of protesters at various locations in the US as protests against the war in Gaza have intensified on university campuses. For instance, Boston police reported to the BBC’s US partner, CBS News, that 108 arrests were made at Emerson College.

Earlier, at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, 93 people were detained on trespassing charges. Clashes between protesters and police also occurred at the University of Texas in Austin, where authorities reported 34 arrests.

Activists have urged universities to "divest from genocide" and cease investing large school endowments in companies involved in weapons manufacturing and other industries that support Israel's war in Gaza.

The protests at the heart of the US serve as a significant inspiration to people around the globe. The struggle of the Gazan people has been lengthy and difficult, and the conflict is starkly disproportionate, with the most powerful nations in terms of military and economic strength actively supporting Israel. Nevertheless, these US students are demonstrating that protests will continue everywhere, keeping alive the aspiration to overturn even the most formidable foes.

The Boxer: The author is one of the indefatigable working-class Bangladeshis who have been trying to change the fate of the nation but were betrayed by the ruling elites and autocrats. The name is inspired by a character in George Orwell's 1945 novel Animal Farm.
