BNP serves foreign masters to gain power: Quader

In response to BNP leaders' comments that the Awami League is serving foreign masters to stay in power, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, 'This label sticks with BNP. They are the ones serving masters to gain power. They do not consider public support as their mainstay. They believe that serving foreign masters can help maintain and gain power. Their sinister intention is still to find out how to gain power through servitude.'

Obaidul Quader made these remarks after paying tribute at the tomb of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque on the occasion of his 62nd death anniversary this Saturday morning, in response to questions from journalists. Initially, he paid tribute on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and later on behalf of the Bangladesh Awami League.

Present at the time were members of the Awami League's presidium, including Kazi Zafarullah, Dr. Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organizational secretary BM Mozammel Haq, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon, Sujit Roy Nandi, cultural secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan, among others.

Obaidul Quader stated, 'BNP has no history of establishing democracy. I do not consider BNP a democratic party. They have killed democracy and turned it into a farce. They have never respected democratic norms even within their party. They talk big, but when have they held a party council? Where have they conducted it? Their last central committee meeting was held 7-8 years ago at La Meridien.'

He added, 'Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque was a quintessential Bengali. Among those who have advanced politics among the common people in this country, he was a foremost national leader. The greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, inspired the common people of this country with the mantra of independence.
