Three foreign powers worked to keep Awami League in power: GM Quader

Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman and Leader of the Opposition, GM Quader, has stated that three major foreign powers worked to keep the Awami League in power. He made this comment during the extended meeting of JaPa's Central Executive Committee held at the Engineers' Institute in Ramna, Dhaka, this Saturday.

GM Quader disclosed that he decided to participate in the election despite the grassroots leaders' opinions to the contrary, because he had realized that the BNP's movement would not be successful. He mentioned that three major foreign powers were actively working to keep the Awami League in power, and there were several other foreign powers ready to support the Awami League. Therefore, he participated in the election to maintain the existence of the party, although the election did not go well.

GM Quader also mentioned that there was confusion among the party workers regarding participation in the election. However, he noted that stopping elections is not a viable way to change governments in any country. Therefore, the Jatiya Party has been conducting its politics in a rule-based manner. There were opinions against participating in the elections at the extended meeting before the election. There were doubts about whether the Jatiya Party could survive in the future if they did not participate in the election, hence they decided to go ahead. You all trusted me. You gave me responsibilities just before the election, during which I observed the environment carefully. It seemed that various foreign powers were influencing in different ways.

The JaPa Chairman said that BNP and Jamaat, having been defeated in their movement, are blaming the Jatiya Party. However, it is true that the elections were not conducted well. The government wants to see the Jatiya Party as a domesticated party, which is never possible. The Jatiya Party was never a subservient opposition and is not willing to become a domesticated opposition party
