Ban on Journalist Entry at Bangladesh Bank to Conceal Corruption and Embezzlement: BNP

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has vehemently criticized the government for restricting journalists’ access to the Bangladesh Bank, alleging that this measure aims to conceal corruption and embezzlement linked to Awami League parliamentarians and their associates. This statement was made by BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, during a protest rally held on Sunday.

Rizvi accused that substantial funds have been embezzled from various banks, implicating MPs, ministers, and their close associates as the perpetrators. The rally, staged in front of BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan, was part of a broader campaign demanding the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, along with BNP leaders Habib-un-Nabi Sohel and Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel.

Rizvi asserted, "The ban on journalists entering Bangladesh Bank is designed to prevent the exposure of corruption and looting activities. Criminals consistently seek to conceal their misdeeds."

The restriction, recently imposed by Bangladesh Bank, has sparked protests from media personnel and various organizations. According to the bank's spokesperson, Mejbahul Haq, journalists now require specific permission to meet with bank officials, effectively prohibiting unrestricted media access to any department within the central bank.

Highlighting the disparity in treatment, Rizvi commented, "While BNP leaders and other whistleblowers languish in jail, those guilty of bank robbery, looting, violence against women and children, land grabbing, and vote rigging are free to roam the country."

He further accused the ruling party’s leaders of perpetrating various atrocities and perpetuating bloodshed while illegitimately retaining power. "This regime is a haven for looters and corrupt individuals, nurturing an environment where crime flourishes," Rizvi stated.

Rizvi also issued a call to action for the populace to vocally oppose the government and ruling party’s ongoing misconduct and corruption.

Concluding his remarks, Rizvi declared, "BNP will persist in its movement against all odds until the current government led by Sheikh Hasina is overthrown. Without this, the public’s safety and rights cannot be assured."
