Non-AC secondary schools in Dhaka and five other districts will remain closed on Monday

In response to the severe heatwave affecting the region, the Ministry of Education has announced that all secondary and technical schools in Dhaka, Chuadanga, Jessore, Khulna, and Rajshahi will remain closed until Monday, April 29th. This decision comes after a consultation between the Ministry of Health and the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

According to a statement released by MA Khair, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, schools equipped with air conditioning may choose to remain open. Further decisions regarding the situation will be assessed and announced on Monday.

Despite the ongoing heatwave, which has prompted numerous advisories from the Meteorological Department, primary schools will continue to operate as usual. "Classes at the primary level occur in the morning and will proceed as scheduled," stated Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, a senior official at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Educational activities had previously resumed on Sunday, April 28th, following an extended break initiated in the first week of April due to the initial heatwave conditions. This break was extended post the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays due to the persistent high temperatures.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the current heatwave is expected to persist for an additional 72 hours from Sunday morning. Originally planned to reopen on April 21, the schools and colleges had their closure extended until April 27 due to the extreme weather.

Parents, particularly those with children at the primary level, have expressed significant concern over the decision to reopen schools amidst the ongoing heatwave, highlighting worries about the health and safety of their children in the sweltering conditions.
